As we announced in our September mini-magazine, we have some exciting news that we’ll elaborate below: The Transcendental Meditation technique is now officially recommended in the U.S. national guidelines for preventing and treating high blood pressure.

What is Veda?

The Sanskrit word “Veda” literally means “total knowledge.” It refers to an all-encompassing system of wisdom that includes a complete exposition of life, nature, the cosmos, health, ethics, consciousness, and much more.

According to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Veda is not merely a collection of ancient texts but the fundamental structure of reality and life—a blueprint of creation that can be directly experienced through consciousness. Maharishi emphasized that each individual embodies the Veda on every level of existence: consciousness, molecular, cellular, and physiological. This holistic view forms the foundation of Maharishi Vedic Science, setting his interpretation apart from traditional definitions.

Maharishi often referred to the Veda as the silent, eternal reality at the basis of all manifestations. It is the fundamental field of life that gives rise to all the laws of nature.

From this perspective, “Vedic” means in accord with the laws of nature, offering practical technologies to eliminate suffering and achieve fulfillment.

Interestingly, there is a deep resonance between Vedic knowledge and modern quantum physics—particularly in how both describe the nature of reality, consciousness, and the unity behind diversity.

In quantum physics, the unified field theory seeks to describe all fundamental forces and particles within a single, underlying framework—a unified source from which the multiplicity of the universe arises. Similarly, Vedic teachings describe the unified, unchanging field of pure consciousness that gives rise to the phenomenal world. The Veda has, within it, the potential and mechanisms to unfold creation—all that exists—and also contains the formulas to develop the full range of total knowledge within the human mind.

Reality depends on consciousness. As the Rigveda beautifully expresses: “Ekam sat viprā bahudhā vadanti” — “Truth is One; sages call it by many names.”

Vedic” means in accord with natural law—Vedic technologies are for the enhancement of life on every level of the individual as well as for society and the world. In this issue of our mini magazine, we highlight four powerful Vedic technologies that Maharishi revived and shared with the world—technologies designed to align individual life with natural law and promote health, harmony, and enlightenment.

The Transcendental Meditation Program

Physics describes the unified field of natural law as a single framework unifying all fundamental forces and particles. You’ll find the same understanding in Vedic teachings which refer to the fundamental, self-sustained field of consciousness that is the source of all natural laws and existence.

While physicists use advanced mathematics and experiments to find this universal basis, which is the goal of a “Theory of Everything,” Vedic Science, conversely, suggests that this field can be directly experienced through the Transcendental Meditation technique, as “pure consciousness,” which contains all possibilities in seed form. In the words of Dr. Tony Nader, the international director of Maharishi’s Vedic programs today:

“This is a knowledge that is available and may seem familiar to us like “yoga”, but more specifically has a practical value to actually develop the physiology and the mind through the use of sound itself. This takes place on the most profound level, on the transcendental level, going beyond the changing fields of consciousness to the inner Self, the inner being, and developing the full potential from the level of the Self.

The human nervous system has a particularity, that it can actually contact that field. In the Veda it is said that this field is the field of pure being, pure consciousness, the field of totality, of wholeness. The technique to prepare the individual to be most receptive and most capable of improving and ameliorating their health comes from the Veda. This is what we are offering and what we have been teaching around the world—a science and technology of consciousness. Consciousness which is awareness, the ability to be conscious and to be aware. What we are talking about is called Maharishi Vedic Science and Technology, known in the world as Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques….

The Transcendental Meditation technique takes you from the surface of thinking, and allows you to dive deeper and deeper, until you reach the unified field of natural law allowing for quietness and silence inside. The human mind, this instrument, allows transcending, which is going beyond the surface level where all of the inner chatter of the mind takes place, to the source of all creativity and all intelligence in the whole universe.”

Maharishi Ayurveda

Ayurveda focuses on the use of the body’s inner intelligence to prevent and treat illness, but the knowledge and procedures had become confused or fragmented over time, so Maharishi revived and restored the complete knowledge of Ayurveda.

Maharishi Ayurveda, an effective holistic approach to health, enlivens harmony with laws of nature in the mind, body, behavior, and environment. It emphasizes a connection to consciousness to promote total health and vitality.

It employs the TM technique, herbal remedies, a unique form of pulse diagnosis, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and treatments to restore balance and prevent disease at its root cause.

For 33 years, an Ayurvedic health center called The Raj has led the field in Maharishi Ayurveda treatments, gaining a reputation as America’s premier Ayurveda Health Center. According to The Raj literature:

“In the late 1970s, working together with the foremost Ayurvedic experts in India, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Transcendental Meditation program (TM), systematized and restored Ayurveda, to its purity and completeness in accord with classic Vedic texts.

Maharishi Ayurveda focuses on enlivening the inner intelligence of the body and strengthening the body’s natural healing ability. Ayurveda’s primary approach is to eliminate the root cause of disorders, rather than focusing on specific symptoms. According to Ayurveda, disorders are primarily the result of imbalances and impurities that accumulate in the body over time. The specialty of Ayurveda is in diagnosing imbalances at an early stage—even before symptoms arise, eliminating imbalances from the body, and providing knowledge on how to live a healthy, balanced routine that supports one’s unique mind/body make-up.

Today the Maharishi Ayurveda health program is the fastest growing system of alternative medicine in the U. S., with over three million practitioners.”

There is now peer-reviewed research that 50% of the burden in the body of environmental toxins called “forever chemicals” was removed during the five-day treatment, referred to as “Pancharma,” at The Raj. Ancient wisdom is proving to be timely and relevant.

Maharishi Gandharva Veda

Among the various ancient musical traditions, Gandharva Veda stands out as a profound system of sound healing derived from the Vedic sciences of India. Unlike modern music therapy, which primarily focuses on psychological and neurological benefits, Maharishi Gandharva Veda Music is rooted in the principle of consciousness-based healing.

It aligns human physiology with cosmic rhythms, making it a unique and holistic therapy beneficial for enhancing wellness and health.

Gandharva music is formal, composed, and ceremonial. Also known as Vedic music, it is said to match the natural rhythms that govern evolution. Gandharva Veda music is the eternal music of nature—the rhythms and melodies of nature expressed as music. If you could hear the changing frequencies present at the first awakening of the dawn, in the dynamism of midday, or in the deep silence of midnight, you would be hearing the frequencies of Gandharva Veda music. These sublime melodies—the pure and simple coherent flow of sound—neutralize stress and disharmony, and gently restore biological rhythms by attuning the physiology to the cycles of nature.

Maharishi Gandharva Veda is the restoration and purification of the principles of Gandharva Veda in accord with the natural laws that govern the cosmos.

Maharishi Sthapatya Veda

Maharishi Sthapatya Veda is the most ancient and supreme system of country, town, village, and home planning in accord with Natural Law, connecting individual life with cosmic life, and individual intelligence with cosmic intelligence. The principle of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda is to establish any building, any village, any city, any country in full alignment with the structuring dynamics of the whole universe, which maintains the connectedness of everything with everything else.

The ancient texts of Veda describe the knowledge (Veda) of establishing form (Sthapatya). Their primary application is in the area of architecture and community design.

Much of the knowledge of Sthapatya Veda had been fragmented or lost until recent times. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the world-wide Transcendental Meditation program, worked with the foremost experts of Sthapatya Veda in India to restore and provide this timeless knowledge to the world. The system as he has restored it is referred to as Maharishi Sthapatya Veda architecture, Maharishi Vedic architecture or Maharishi Vastu architecture.

It uses precise mathematical formulas, equations, and proportions to design buildings in perfect harmony with Natural Law—with nature’s laws and rhythms. This involves right orientation, right proportion and right placement.  In peer-reviewed studies, clients overwhelmingly experience improved health and vitality.

Maharishi Sthapatya Veda homes in every style, office buildings, and entire communities are currently in 57 countries and 37 US states.

In a worldwide survey of 187 residents of MVA homes:

  • 92% reported greater overall success
  • 89% reported improved quality of life
  • 89% of parents reported their children are happier
  • 85% reported less stress
  • 78% reported improved family relations
