The Brain Behind Peak Performance

Neuroscientists have found that during TM practice, the brain produces high-power alpha waves. When the alpha waves become synchronous, the seat of the brain’s executive judgement is strengthened. No other meditation technique has been found to consistently produce alpha coherence throughout the brain. Researchers have found that the experience of “transcending” restores neurological balance, inner silence, and clarity of mind. (ref: Cognitive Processing, 2010)
A new book called World-Class Brain discusses the brain power behind top performers. With the results of three studies—on Olympic athletes, top managers, and symphony orchestra musicians—it’s been shown that these high levels of performance correlate with high levels of brain integration, according to electroencephalogram (EEG) measurements. An EEG is a non-invasive way to track and record brain wave patterns.
With regular practice of the TM technique, research shows that the brain is more coherent and integrated—all the different parts communicate better, working together better as a whole. This is the basis of improved mental performance—better memory, increased creativity, broader comprehension and sharper focus. The book elaborates in simple terms what brain integration means and explores various means to achieve it, including playing a musical instrument, exercising and TM.
The book presents peer-reviewed research on the Transcendental Meditation technique indicating that it is the most effective way to develop high levels of brain integration. The TM technique is the only meditation technique that shows increases in broadband intra and unique inter-hemispheric EEG coherence associated with increased neurological functioning, IQ, academic performance, grade point average, creativity, concept learning, serenity, emotional stability, self-esteem, moral reasoning, and consciousness orientation.
World Class Brain reveals details of peak experiences associated with brain integration in the top performers who participated in the studies and compares them with scientifically validated experiences of long-term practitioners of Transcendental Meditation. It’s an eye opener!
