The Transcendental Meditation Program for Native American / Indigenous Women

Starting in 1974, Transcendental Meditation (TM) organizations have engaged with various tribal leaders, building partnerships to support indigenous communities.

The secular, evidence-based TM program significantly enhances the health and well-being of Native American women, offering a holistic and culturally sensitive approach that helps build a community of healthier, happier individuals.

The deep mental and physical rest during the TM practice aligns with traditional indigenous values of inner peace, balance, and harmony with nature.

Native American women experience significant health issues, including chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity; widespread stress, anxiety, and depression; and elevated rates of domestic violence and substance abuse.

Hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific studies—demonstrating exceptional statistical significance—have shown that the Transcendental Meditation program offers a genuine and effective solution to the health challenges faced by Native American women.

The Transcendental Meditation technique is easily learned from a certified TM teacher and then can be practiced comfortably anywhere on one’s own. A free, lifetime follow-up program is included to ensure maximum progress.

Today we continue to teach the TM program to communities of indigenous women in California, Arizona, New Mexico and elsewhere.

By reaching out to mothers and grandmothers, we can strengthen the health of families, which in turn strengthens the health of entire tribal communities. In this way, TM contributes meaningfully to the broader network of support for Native American women and their communities, offering an additional layer of wellness and resilience.

Testimonials

TM set the stage for me to be more and more aware of my own thoughts, feelings and actions which creates better and more fulfilling experiences and relationships with family and community members

H.P.

TM diminishes anxiety, insecurities, rumination and clarifies thinking thereby enhancing mental capacity and strengthens self-esteem. As a Native Woman, I am able to share more of my truths and authentic insights with our non-native relatives.

When I meditate, I have the space within myself to be grounded in my awareness and understanding. I feel the interconnection between the social, emotional, physical and mental states of myself. Particularly for me, it’s a holistic approach which treats my ADHD and I am able to slow down. TM paired with traditional native teachings remind me that I am whole at all times and that the world is happening around but not to me. Ultimately through these experiences, my connection to spirit tells me the universe is here for me and not against me.
